Jurgen Klopp is a favourite character of mine. Regardless of the football domain, he is a person that can teach you one or two things about life. I specially like his passion about his work.
He has not started this season of PL as it was expected. The situation got worse by the heavy defeat of Liverpool FC against Tottenham. Conceding 5 goals, and an awful performance, left LFC frustrated and powerless.
I tried to figure out how LFC fans in Liverpool city think about the situation. To do so, the data is extracted from twitter, including the tweets posted from Liverpool city, including "Klopp" as the keyword. In fact, I was seeking for an excuse to do sentiment analysis in R, and I liked to do so on such topic since I have the domain knowledge and the topic matters to me!
Using TidyText Package was another motivation. Julia Silge and David Robinson have published "Text Mining with R: A tidy approach" , a very nice book to their package, so why not give it a try? I will write a review on this book on another post, but in summary I suggest you to go and enjoy the book!
The report and its related R code can be found at my Rpub library, and exactly this publication
In summary, the sentiments of tweets were not that much positive after that heavy defeat:
The frequencies of tweets with the corresponding set of sentiments are shown in this plot. From the 1000 investigated tweets, the ones with only negative sentiment are the most common tweets. Hopefully Jurgen can change the situation!
